General Bertram Roth (unknown - 2125) is the secondary antagonist of Red Faction: Guerrilla and the leader of the Earth Defence Force deployment on Mars, operating from his headquarters at EDF Central Command in the sector of Eos during the Second Martian Uprising.
After being assigned to the red planet, General Roth becomes paranoid that his enemies on the Earth Defence Council are intent on destroying his career and has masterminded his transfer to the "dead-end, backwater planet." That paranoia quickly clouds his actions and judgement, and reaches a peak when Admiral Kobel takes over command of Mars operations.
In a last ditch attempt to save his career and his governance he launches the Raid on the Badlands Safehouse against the Red Faction enclave in the hills of the distant sector achieving a shocking blow against the insurgency which cripples and scatters them, killing their commander Hugo Davies and many other key members. He claims glorious total victory, but fate conspired against him and the Red Faction joins with the Marauders, hatching a plan to destroy the EDF powerbase on Mars for good.
During the Battle of Mount Vogel, Roth personally mans a tank at the very top of the mountain in case the Red Faction manages to get through. When Alec Mason nears the top of the mountain, he is stopped by a large force of EDF soldiers, but manages to reach the top when a large number of Marauders intervene. Roth is killed while trying to stop Alec Mason from destroying the Hydra atop Mount Vogel, embitters by his failure and with nothing left to lose.
